This year’s annual conference will encompass STEM workshops, training, and competitions. In addition, SER will also host Women’s Entrepreneurship workshops, which will include Financial Literacy, Business Plans, The Importance of Social Media, Marketing, Loans, and Taxes.
The last two years, Community Day has become a signature of SER National’s Annual Conference. Community Day focuses on STEM (Science, Tech, Engineering, and Mathematics). Here students and the local community can come and experience hands-on with interactive activities. Community Day will also feature a job fair, where young people will have an opportunity to apply for jobs, internships and co-ops or work-study programs, too include workshops and displays from an array of corporations. This year, Community Day takes place at Tarrant County College South Campus (5301 Campus Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76119).

March 28, 2019Community Day is a part of SER National’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) programs and interest in SER’s year-round Robotics Program has grown substantially. SER’s program is a hands-on educational experience led by engineering students and career professionals. The program also enhances middle and high school students’ academic, technical and leadership skills.

Dr. Marla Pérez-Davis
Keynote Speaker
Dr. Marla E. Pérez-Davis serves as the Deputy Director of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s John H. Glenn Research Center in Cleveland. Pérez-Davis, a native of Puerto Rico, earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico; a master of science degree from the University of Toledo and a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University in Chemical Engineering.

Patricia G. Greene of Texas is the 18th Director of the Women’s Bureau, U.S. Department of Labor. She joined the Department of Labor in November 2017. Dr. Greene is a former entrepreneurship professor at Babson College where she held the Paul T. Babson Chair in Entrepreneurial Studies. While at Babson she served terms as first the Dean of the Undergraduate School and then the Provost. Dr. Greene was the founding National Academic Director for the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses initiative and the Global Academic Director for the 10,000 Women program, a global initiative that fosters economic growth by providing women entrepreneurs around the world with business and management education, mentoring and networking, and access to capital.

His specialty, whether working on women’s issues, African-American history month, Hispanic events or the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, is to challenge negative mindsets and offer the solutions for transforming them. Dr. Betances offers his new, nonsexist, balanced systems, which do not allow any group a hierarchy, to clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to government agencies to community colleges.

Jeffrey Vargas is a workforce visionary who believes in living a life of purpose, on purpose. He is first and foremost a dad to Xochitl Rose (11), Diego Lee (9), and Elijah Derrick (6) and a husband. He is the Founder and President of Generationology LLC; a talent management and leadership development and coaching consulting practice that helps organizations learn how to build intergenerational trust, mitigate generational conflict, and unleash generational synergy.
Dr. Dionne Hernandez-Lugo

Dr. Dionne Hernández-Lugo, has a B.S. in Industrial Chemistry and a Ph. D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico. At NASA Glenn Research Center she was appointed the lead test engineer for the Advanced Space Power Systems within the Power Division. Dr. Hernández-Lugo currently serves as the Kilopower Project Manager and the Deputy Manager for Nuclear Launch Approval.
In 2012, NASA recognized Dr. Hernández-Lugo for her commitment to STEM education and leadership with the NASA Ambassador award. In 2014, she received the Leadership Award from the Women of Color in STEM Magazine and multiple NASA Group Achievement Awards.

Dr. Michael D. Smith is the Deputy Executive Director of The National GEM Consortium. Michael, known by many as “Dr. Mike”, is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day operational, financial, programmatic and board support services of the organization at The National GEM Consortium Corporate Headquarters office in Alexandria, VA. Michael holds a B.S. and M.S. in chemical engineering from Missouri University of Science & Technology (UM-Rolla) and doctorate in chemical engineering/ engineering management from Texas A&M University. Dr. Mike is proud to be a Lifetime member of NSBE, SHPE , AISES (Sequoyah Fellow), and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
