YouthBuild is here to help you do just that. As presented to and approved by USDOL, the program will primarily serve the Oak Cliff area of Dallas County.
What is YouthBuild?
YouthBuild is a youth leadership and workforce development program designed to empower young adults to complete their education, gain hands-on training in construction, earn industry-recognized certifications, and become active leaders in their communities.
This program is 100% free and made for motivated youth who are ready to step up and create real change in their lives.

- Must be between 16 and 24 years of age
- Did not finish high school

Is SER YouthBuilding Oak Cliff a DISD school?
No, the YouthBuild program in Oak Cliff is not a public school covered by TEA open-enrollment policies. YouthBuild is a federally funded program from the U.S. Department of Labor that combines two certifications, education (GED), and construction (NCCER). It includes hands-on construction experience in a worksite.
Is programming offered in Spanish?
No, all programming is in English.
What is GED?
The GED is composed of four areas of study. The four areas are mathematics, social studies, science, and English. After passing all the tests and getting your GED, you can qualify to attend college, get a job, or join the military.
What is expected of me if I am selected?
- To place all your efforts into studying, testing, and passing your certifications.
- To fully participate in ALL aspects of the program, including education, construction training, hands-on work experience, leadership development and career readiness activities.
- To attend every day of the week to learn and study for the certifications.

Is there a fee associated with this program?
No, YouthBuild is a no-tuition certification program for eligible applicants. After the eligibility is approved and program requirements are met, you can receive services free of charge.
How long will it take to graduate?
It takes 6-12 months for the average student to graduate, though it varies depending on the academic skill level when you enroll.
Why does the application ask about justice involvement?
YouthBuild is committed to supporting youth involved in the criminal justice system. Therefore, applicants with violent felony convictions are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Do I have to be a U.S. citizen?
No, but you must have the right to work documentation (Visa/Residency Card).
YouthBuild is funded in whole through a grant awarded by the United States Department of Labor.
