Kenny entered SCSEP in 2017, he was homeless and facing over 40 years of extreme barriers. During his enrollment in SCSEP, he served the community with gratitude and discipline. Kenny used SCSEP as an opportunity to grow into his dreams. This year, Kenny’s dreams came true when he found a job. He was hired out of the SCSEP program by the very same homeless shelter he resided in when he entered the program. He now has a full time job, which includes helping those starting the same journey he started three years ago. He has been blessed with the opportunity to advocate for those battling addiction and homelessness. Kenny gets to use his own past experiences to build bridges of trust with those needing assistance. Kenny’s experience is astounding. Kenny’s story doesn’t stop there. This same homeless shelter featured Kenny on their annual fundraising campaign. Out of the thousands of clients they serve annually, they chose Kenny’s story to share. He is, indeed as they say in the letter, truly a “miracle”.

SER National would like to wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving. While this year has thrown us a lot of curveballs, we hope you would take a moment and reflect on all there is to be thankful for. We have seen our communities come together like never before this year, and we believe that is something to celebrate. Even though some of us may not be celebrating in close proximity with our family and friends, we hope you will find ways to still feel close to them. Thank you for being a supporter of SER National and the work we do to elevate our nation’s people to be the best they can be. We are thankful for you and we hope you, too, will have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving Day.

Happy Veteran’s Day! Thank you to those who have served our country, those who are currently serving, and those that will serve in the future. Many who stand up to fight for our country are not U.S. citizens. They put their lives on the line for America’s freedom and opportunity before they even have the right to vote. To all our veterans, we can’t even begin to adequately express our gratitude for your continued sacrifice. On behalf of SER National and the one million individuals we serve annually, we thank you and your families for putting others before yourselves in service of this country.

SER National is expanding the reach of our 56th Annual Conference this year by going virtual on Nov. 18 and 19 with Community Day following on Nov. 20. The event, held on Facebook Live and YouTube Live, opens opportunities for more students and participants to access the conference, allowing SER to reach even more people. This year’s conference, entitled “Partnerships for Progress in an Era of Innovation” will include inspiring speakers, informational exhibits and challenging STEM competitions.
Gathering together virtually during our annual conference will be a chance for us all to learn together, grow together and be inspired. 2020 has been a year unlike any other. We need each other more than ever, and we need hope more than ever. I am confident that Conference and Community Day will spark hope and provide encouragement to our participants.
Currently, 2 countries, 18 states, Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico will be represented at the Conference and Community Day. The virtual conference, though not our plan A, will enable many more individuals to be impacted by the great work and programs of SER, and for that, we are grateful! I hope to “see” you all there!

As the election draws nearer, SER National encourages everyone to vote! We have a chance to make our voices heard – each one of our voices. Voting has the power to make real change in our country and our communities. Voting affects more than who is in the White House – it impacts our daily lives. It affects our businesses, our taxes, our education systems, and more.
SER provides training and educational opportunities to the Hispanic community and other under-resourced populations so they may participate in the socio-economic mainstream, achieving equal access, parity and a voice in all aspects of American society. Voting is a crucial responsibility in our American society.
In the United States, the Hispanic population surpassed 60 million in 2019. That means there are millions of voices who must speak up and let their voice be heard at the polls. Together, we can’t be silenced. We hope you’ll join us and vote this year and every year to come.
